Forms of Main Verbs


Main verbs are also called "lexical verbs".

Main verbs (except the verb "be") have only 4, 5 or 6 forms. "Be" has 9 forms.

kinds of verbs

Action verbs - tell the action of a subject in a sentence
linking verbs - connects the subject to a noun pronoun or adjective.
Helping verb - help the main verb describe the action.
Transitive verb - a verb for which the action is named in the sentence.
Intransitive verb - a verb for which the action is not named in the sentence.
Regular verbs - verbs in which the formation of the past and past participle follow a predictable pattern.
Irregular verbs - verbs in which the formation of the past and past participle do not follow a predictable pattern.

Verb

In syntax, a verb is a word (part of speech) that usually denotes an action (bringread), an occurrence (decomposeglitter), or a state of being (existstand). Depending on the language, a verb may vary in form according to many factors, possibly including its tenseaspectmood andvoice. It may also agree with the persongender, and/or number of some of its arguments (subject,object, etc.).
